Biography of Amilcar Cabral:

Guinean revolutionary leader 1924 - Born in Bafata, Portuguese Guinea, on the 21st of September.  Educated in Lisbon, and Amilcar Cabral founded student movements dedicated to African nationalism.

 1950s - Amilcar Cabral returned to Africa and began forming independence movements.  He was involved in the formation of the PAIGC or Partido Africano da Independência da Guiné e Cabo Verde.

 He also worked to form a liberation party in Angola with Agostinho Neto.  1962 - Cabral led the PAIGC in a military conflict against the Portuguese imperial forces.

 1973 - Assassinated on 20th of January, just months before Guinea-Bissau gained independence.    .
