She went to University of Southern California and studied cinema and journalism before taking up acting at Beverly Hills' Solaris Theater. Madeleine Stowe made a few appearances in TV and on film but her breakthrough came in 1987 with Stakeout (1987).
Other major credits include The Last of the Mohicans (1992) and Short Cuts (1993). When not filming Madeleine Stowe spends her time at her ranch in Texas, which Madeleine Stowe shares with her husband Brian Benben.
Thereafter, several major film roles followed. The next year, director Robert Altman cast Stowe in Short Cuts, in which Madeleine Stowe gave one of her most acclaimed screen performances as the wife of a compulsive lying and adulterous police officer played by Tim Robbins.
The following year, Madeleine was a blind musician in the thriller Blink, co-starring Aidan Quinn (14 years earlier, Madeleine Stowe had a guest role as a blind painter in Little House on the Prairie).
