1836 - Born in Baltimore County, Maryland on the 16th of October. 1856 - Russell Sturgis graduated from the Free Academy in New York.

1862 - Russell Sturgis returned to the United States. Russell Sturgis designed Battell Chapel and Farnham and Durfee Halls at Yale.

1880 - Russell Sturgis was in Europe and for a short time after his return was secretary of the New York Municipal Civil Service Board. 1889 - Russell Sturgis was president of the Architectural League of New York.

1895 - Russell Sturgis was first president of the Fine Arts Federation.          - Russell Sturgis was a member of the National Society of Mural Painters, the National Sculpture Society, the National Academy of Design, and the New York chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
