Biography of General William Booth:

1829 - William Booth was born on the 10th of April in Nottingham, England to an Anglican family. English religious leader, founder and first general of the Salvation Army1842 - At thirteen, General William Booth was converted in a Wesleyan Chapel in London.

         - General William Booth was sent to work as an apprentice in a pawnbroker's shop to help support his mother and sisters. 1846 - General William Booth began preaching at the age of 17.

1849 - General William Booth reluctantly left his family and moved to London, where General William Booth found work and lodging in a pawnbroker's shop. 1851 - Booth joined the Reformers (Wesleyan Reform Union).

1852 - General William Booth left pawnbroking and became a full-time preacher at their headquarters at Binfield Chapel in Clapham.
