1876 - Born on the 22nd of June in Chilleurs-aux-Bois, Loiret. 1912 - Madeleine Vionnet founded her own fashion house, "Vionnet.

" The House of Vionnet grew to employ over 1,100 seamstresses and was the first fashion house to create ready to wear designs from haute couture for sale in the United States. 1920 - Vionnet created a stir by introducing the bias cut, a technique for cutting cloth diagonal to the grain of the fabric enabling it to cling to the body while moving with the wearer.

1930 - Vionnet dominated haute couture in the setting trends with her sensual gowns worn by such stars as Marlene Dietrich, Katherine Hepburn, and Greta Garbo. 1939 - Vionnet acted as a mentor to later designers, passing on her principles of elegance, movement, architectural form, and timeless style.
