1732 - Born in Winyah, near Georgetown, South Carolina, on the 26th of February. 1759 - Francis Marion settled on Pond Bluff plantation near Eutaw Springs, in St.
John's parish, Berkeley county. 1761 - Francis Marion served as a lieutenant under William Moultrie in a campaign against the Cherokees.
1775 - Francis Marion was a member of the South Carolina Provincial Congress; and on the 21st of June was commissioned captain in the 2nd South Carolina regiment under Moultrie, with whom Francis Marion served in June 1776 in the defense of Fort Sullivan (Fort Moultrie), in Charleston Harbor. 1776 - On September, the Continental Congress commissioned him a lieutenant-colonel.
1779 - Francis Marion took part in the siege of Savannah, and early, under General Benjamin Lincoln, was engaged in drilling militia.
