 1978-1993 - Michel Barnier was elected to the House of Representatives as a deputy for the Savoie.  1992 - Together with Jean-Claude Killy Michel Barnier organized the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville.

 1995-1997 - Michel Barnier was the Secretary of State for European Affairs.  1999-2004 - Barnier served as a European Commissioner for regional policy in the Prodi Commission.

 2004-2005 - Michel Barnier served Foreign Minister of France in the government of Jean-Pierre Raffarin.  Michel Barnier is Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur (Legion of Honour).
