S. in biology) and at the University of Pittsburgh (M.

S. ).

1971 - Wangari Muta Maathai received a Ph. D.

at the University of Nairobi, where Wangari Muta Maathai then taught veterinary anatomy. 1977 - The Green Belt Movement, an organization Wangari Muta Maathai founded, had, by the early 21st century, planted some 30 million trees and inspired similar grassroots movements in other African countries.

1988 - Wangari Muta Maathai is the author of The Green Belt Movement: Sharing the Approach and the Experience.
