Biography of Milton Jackson:

1923 - Born on January 1st in Detroit, Michigan. American jazz musician who introduced a range of expression and melody to a previously unexpressive percussion instrument, the vibraphone, in order to create passionate solos that made him one of the giants of modern jazz.

1945 - Dizzy Gillespie arranged for him to come to New York, whereupon Milton Jackson joined Dizzy’s sextet, then a year later, his big band. 1949 - Milton Jackson replaced Terry Gibbs in the Woody Herman band.

1950 - Returned to the Gillespie organization. 1957 - Milton Jackson and Lewis were faculty members of the School of Jazz in Lenox, Massachusetts.

         - Milton Jackson dominated his instrument for much of his career, was inducted into the Percussion Hall of Fame, and received numerous other awards, including induction in the Down Beat Hall of Fame.
