Morton Bahr biography:

1926 - Born on the 18th of July in Brooklyn, New York. Morton Bahr is recognized as one of the world’s most influential union leaders. Morton Bahr is the labor movement’s leading expert on technology and information-based industries.

         - Served in the Merchant Marine as a radio operator during World War II.

1951 - Joined the Communication Workers of America (CWA) as an in-plant organizer at Mackay Radio and Telegraph in New York.

1957 - Morton Bahr joined the CWA staff and was the lead organizer in a campaign that brought 24,000 plant workers in the New York Telephone Company into CWA.

1961 - Appointed CWA's New York director.

1963 - Elected Vice President of District 1, which covered New York, New Jersey, and New England.

1983 - Bahr graduated from The Harry Van Arsdale Jr. Center for Labor Studies of Empire State College.
 
1985-2005 - Elected as the third president of the CWA. Since Morton Bahr became international president, the 745,000-member Communications Workers of America has emerged as the nation’s leading union for professional, technical and information-age workers.

         - Morton Bahr led the union through one of its most turbulent periods after the breakup of the AT&T Bell System, which had employed a half-million union workers.

         - Morton Bahr chaired the Commission for a Nation of Lifelong Learners, which completed a far-reaching, two-year study of adult learning.

         - President Bill Clinton appointed him to the 21st Century Workforce Commission, which released a landmark study on preparing U.S. workers for jobs in the information-technology industries.

2005 - Retired from CWA and Morton Bahr currently resides in Washington, DC with his wife, Florence.
